Abstract: Hot-Lock™ Access Control List (ACL) Technology

Comprehensive network security often requires system administrators to update Access Control List (ACL) entries of a switch/router frequently to prevent newly discovered or pending attacks from affecting the network or networking equipment. Force10 Networks E-Series switch/routers avoid this common security risk by using a distinctive update process that modifies and applies the ACL in a single pass. Built into Force10 Operating Software (FTOS™), Hot-Lock handles ACLs in such a way that avoids removing the ACL from an interface prior to the ACL modification action.
