Force10 Networks Enhances its Traverse™ Multiservice Transport Platform with Powerful New Generation Wideband Digital Cross-Connect (DCS) Capabilities
Evolution of Force10’s flagship transport platform provides dramatic scalability advantages and cost savings over traditional DCS architectures
SAN JOSE, Calif., April 13, 2011 – Force10 Networks, Inc., a leading developer and supplier of multiservice transport platforms, today announced a significant expansion to its product portfolio, adding enhanced scalable wideband DCS functionality to the company’s flagship Traverse™ Platform. Available today, the new bandwidth management capabilities made possible with this enhancement enable service providers to simplify their transport networks while dramatically reducing both capital and operational costs.
Raising the industry bar in cost-effective switching scalability with this enhancement, the Traverse Platform supports seamless growth from 96 to 768 STS-1 equivalents (2688 to 21,504 VTs) of fully protected, non-blocking capacity in a single shelf that takes up one fourth of a standard 7-foot rack. Expansion can be accomplished completely in-service, in 48 STS-1 increments. This flexible, “pay-as-you-grow” approach provides significant cost savings over existing DCS architectures, which typically require considerable up-front capital investments.
“The addition of scalable wideband cross-connect capabilities is the natural next-step in our product suite,” said Henry Wasik, president and CEO of Force10 Networks. “The unique distributed architecture of the Traverse Platform allows us to respond to the requirements of our carrier customers with a seamless solution that simplifies the evolution of their networks and service offerings.”
About the Traverse Platform
Force10’s Traverse Multiservice Transport Platform combines extensive SONET grooming, switching and transport, as well as layer 2 Ethernet switching, in a single compact footprint. Ideally suited for applications in carriers’ access, metro or inter-office networks, the evolutionary Traverse solution provides cost-effective SONET transport and service-level traffic management of traditional DS-N and OC-N services, as well as next-generation packet services such as Ethernet. Offering unmatched densities and flexibility, the Traverse Platform supports DS1 to OC-192, as well as switched Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet interfaces, with the ability to cross-connect between any OC-N, EC-1, DS1, or DS3 port at the VT1.5 and STS-1 levels. As a DCS, the Traverse Platform also provides flexible transmux capability, and integrated test access to facilitate the monitoring of circuit paths in order to guarantee Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
