FORCE10 NETWORKS EXPANDS ITS S-SERIES FAMILY OF ACCESS SWITCHES TO EMPOWER CUSTOMERS TO OPTIMIZE THEIR NETWORKS

SAN JOSE, Calif., September 3, 2008 – Force10 Networks®, the pioneer in building and securing reliable networks, today expanded its S-Series family of access switches to provide customers with the flexibility they require to build and optimize their networks.  The Force10 S25N and S25V extend to the edge of the wiring closet and data center the reliability enterprises require to support existing as well as emerging applications.

"As the network becomes more valuable, it is increasingly clear that there is no one solution that fits for all customers, but what all customers need is reliability throughout their network," said Sachi Sambandan, vice president of engineering at Force10 Networks.  "The S-Series, like the rest of the Force10 product portfolio, allows our customers to design their networks according to their unique needs without compromising on reliability or performance.”

In addition to the new switches, the Force10 S-Series includes the S25P, S50N, S50V and the S2410, providing customers with multiple options for building into their wiring closets and data centers the reliability they need to leverage their network as a strategic asset.  With a combination of fiber and copper Gigabit and 10 Gigabit Ethernet switches, the S-Series family allows customers to optimize their networks according to their own application and business needs.

The S25N supports 24 line-rate 10/100/1000Base-T ports while the S25V supports full Class 3 Power over Ethernet (PoE) to all 24 ports.  Each also supports four shared Gigabit Ethernet SFP ports as well as four line-rate 10 Gigabit Ethernet uplinks to maximize investment protection by ensuring customers can reconfigure the switches as their network needs change.  To provide further deployment flexibility, multiple S25 switches and S50 switches can be managed as a single switch, increasing capacity without increasing network management tasks.

The new S25 switches, like the Force10 C-Series and E-Series, also support FTOS, the modular Force10 operating system that delivers inherent reliability and network control.  With an industry-standard command line interface, enterprises can leverage their existing knowledge and tools without the investment in new training.

To efficiently manage power, the S25V also supports Force10’s PowerSmartTM technology, which automatically senses and provisions the required amount of power to connected devices.  Additionally, PowerSmart enables customers to prioritize ports to ensure critical functions remain powered in the event of a power supply failure.  By utilizing PowerSmart, enterprises do not need to overprovision ports, reducing power consumption and more efficiently running the network.

All products are available now.  Additional details can be found on the company’s website at http://www.force10networks.com/products/sseries.asp.

The Force10 Reliable Networking product portfolio features advances in reliability, network control and scalability that enable enterprises to lower their total cost of ownership.  By building a flexible network that is ready to support emerging and evolving applications, enterprises can optimize their networks for current needs as well as future requirements.
