FORCE10 NETWORKS POWERS SCINET AND DEMONSTRATES ULTRA LOW LATENCY OF THE S2410 10 GIGABIT ETHERNET SWITCH AT SUPERCOMPUTING CONFERENCE
SAN JOSE, Calif., November 12, 2007 – Force10 Networks®, the pioneer in building and securing reliable networks, today announced that its Reliable Networking product portfolio, including the TeraScale E1200 switch/router and the S2410 data center switch, is powering SCinet, the high performance network built for the SC07 conference. Force10 switches and routers deliver the reliability, network control and scalability that are required to ensure always-on access in high performance computing and networking environments.
“Force10 has well-established roots in the high performance computing space and continues to collaborate with the community to fine tune advanced networking technologies,” said Debbie Montano, director of research and education alliances and the chair of the Bandwidth Challenge at SC07. “SC07 is the industry showcase of high performance networking technologies, and Force10 will once again play an integral role in demonstrating the value of reliability in building the next generation network.”
The Force10 TeraScale E1200 will support 44 line-rate 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports in SCinet for Bandwidth Challenge entries as well as for exhibitors that require high utilization, non-blocking 10 Gigabit Ethernet links for booth demonstrations. With robust support for Layer 2 switching and Layer 3 routing functions, the TeraScale E1200 is being utilized in a variety of capacities within the show network. Force10 is also providing four S50 access switches for the SCinet network operations center (NOC) and the Cluster Challenge.
The Force10 S2410 will demonstrate interoperability in the new low latency Open Fabrics/RDMA infrastructure that is part of SCinet this year. This infrastructure allows exhibitors to leverage InfiniBand and low latency 10 Gigabit Ethernet, including the S2410, for clustered computing, server-to-server processing, visualization and file system access to attached storage. With Infiniband-like switching latency of 300 nanoseconds, the S2410 enables organizations to gain the efficiencies of Infiniband while capturing the cost and management benefits of Ethernet in high performance clustered environments.
In addition to demonstrating interoperability of the S2410 in the low latency Open Fabrics infrastructure, Force10 will also demonstrate interoperability with Finisar’s Laserwire™ solution, a low cost plug and play interconnect. Laserwire requires nearly 95 percent less power than 10GBase-T, resulting in lower cooling requirements. The Force10 S2410 supports 24 line-rate ports of 10 Gigabit Ethernet, allowing organizations to efficiently connect directly to 10 Gigabits per second servers. Together, the Force10 S2410 and the Laserwire interconnect enable organizations to cost effectively optimize high performance computing resources.
Force10’s Reliable Networking product portfolio is designed to deliver the reliability, network control and scalability that allow organizations to build flexible networks that are application ready. The portfolio will be on display in the Force10 booth, 1029, at SC07, from Nov. 12-15, in Reno, Nev.
Built each year for the SC conference, SCinet is a high performance network that is powerful enough to transfer over 100 Gigabits of data in just one second. SCinet serves as the platform for show exhibitors to demonstrate supercomputing and grid computing applications and experiments that leverage advanced computing resources from their home institutions and elsewhere.
