CENTRAL EUROPE’S LARGEST INTERNET EXCHANGE TACKLES INCREASING TRAFFIC DEMANDS WITH FORCE10 NETWORKS TERASCALE E-SERIES SWITCH/ROUTERS

SAN JOSE, Calif., June 27, 2007 –Force10 Networks®, the pioneer in building and securing reliable networks, today announced that DE-CIX, the largest Internet exchange in Central and Eastern Europe, is leveraging the scalable capacity of the TeraScale E-Series® family of switch/routers to meet the rapidly increasing bandwidth demands.  The Force10 TeraScale E-Series has helped DE-CIX scale its network and services to support nearly 200 Gigabits per second of traffic, an increase of 140 percent over the past 12 months.

“The convergence of a growing customer base and their increasing use of bandwidth-intensive multimedia applications drove our need to deploy a highly reliable and scalable network infrastructure,” says Harald Summa, CEO at DE-CIX.  “Force10 stood alone in its ability to seamlessly deliver the capacity to answer these pressing challenges and still have the capability to scale toward the 400-600 Gbps range we anticipate needing in the next couple years.”

The Force10 TeraScale E-Series connects four colocation facilities throughout Frankfurt in a resilient 10 Gigabit Ethernet backbone to support more than 200 Internet providers from more than 20 countries.  Supporting 1,260 Gigabit and 224 Ten Gigabit Ethernet ports, the TeraScale E-Series provides the capacity that has enabled DE-CIX to deliver 10 Gigabit connectivity to more than 90 customers and migrate about 110 customers from 100 Megabit services to Gigabit services.

The patent-protected five Terabits-per-second (Tbps) backplane of the Force10 TeraScale E-Series is uniquely architected for high performance networks like DE-CIX that are currently processing high traffic levels and anticipate rapid growth in the future. With up to 330 Gbps of full duplex bandwidth per slot, the TeraScale E-Series can support system-level capacity increases without the added cost of a chassis or backplane upgrade, providing long-term investment protection.
