FORCE10 NETWORKS AWARDED PATENT FOR INNOVATIONS IN RELIABLE SWITCHING AND ROUTING

SAN JOSE, Calif., April 4, 2007 – Force10 Networks®, the pioneer in building and securing reliable networks, today announced that it has been awarded a patent for its advances in delivering reliable system-level performance and throughput. The Force10 TeraScale E-Series® family of switch/routers leverages this innovation in engineering to deliver reliable networking performance regardless of traffic conditions.

“While supporting hundreds of ports provides key advantages for customers, they are nullified if the system cannot effectively process the traffic and distribute it efficiently,” said Joel Goergen, chief scientist and vice president of technology at Force10 Networks. “The innovation behind this patent is fundamental to the ability of the TeraScale E-Series to deliver consistent, predictable performance whether 10 ports are connected or 1,260 are connected.”

The advanced algorithms protected by the patent enable a single processor to control all packet distribution across equal cost paths and aggregated links. With a single processor controlling packet distribution, the system can more efficiently process traffic to deliver predictable performance.

Force10 holds 15 U.S. patents and five international patents that protect the advanced design and engineering features of the TeraScale E-Series. In addition to switching and routing innovations, these patents also protect the manufacturing and design advances of the TeraScale E-Series backplane. Tested to support up to 40 100 Gigabit Ethernet ports, the backplane is unique in that it is both copper and passive, eliminating it as a point of failure in the system to further ensure reliable performance.

The Force10 TeraScale E-Series family of switch/routers is designed for performance parity. Regardless of traffic conditions or active features, the TeraScale E-Series delivers predictable performance across 1,260 Gigabit and 224 Ten Gigabit Ethernet ports.
