HANARO TELECOM TURNS ON VIDEO SERVICES WITH FORCE10 NETWORKS TERASCALE E-SERIES
SAN JOSE, Calif., March 19, 2007 – Force10 Networks®, the pioneer in building and securing high performance networks, today announced that Hanaro Telecom, the second largest telecommunications carrier in South Korea, is deploying the TeraScale E-Series® family of switch/routers in its fiber to the home (FTTH) network to power its new HanaTV service. With this deployment, Hanaro now relies on the Force10 TeraScale E-Series for its cable service, Internet data center and FTTH network.
“The number of subscribers and amount of bandwidth being consumed across our network continues to grow, as does our need for scalable, resilient service platforms,” said HyunChan Kim, managing director of the backbone network team at Hanaro Telecom. “Force10 has consistently delivered the high performance switching and routing we require, so it was a natural extension to deploy the E-Series in the Hanaro IP network.”
In the most recent deployment, the Force10 TeraScale E300 cost effectively delivers the seamless scalability that allows Hanaro Telecom to add new subscribers without impacting the performance of its HanaTV service. Hanaro Telecom has also deployed the Force10 TeraScale E-Series at the core to aggregate traffic on its cable network. Additionally, Hanaro has deployed a combination of the TeraScale E1200 and TeraScale E600 in its Internet data center.
The high performance switching and routing of the Force10 TeraScale E-Series family enables Hanaro Telecom to simplify multiple network layers into a single one. With a robust routing implementation, the TeraScale E-Series acts as both a core switch and BGP router within Hanaro’s network, simplifying the network architecture and reducing the costs of network ownership.
The Force10 TeraScale E-Series family supports leading scalability and resiliency. To increase system performance and fault tolerance, switching, routing and management functions are distributed between multiple processors. This distribution enables maximum network uptime as well as protected memory for each function to ensure line-rate performance regardless of traffic conditions.
“Force10 has a history of being a reliable partner that can scale as Hanaro Telecom’s subscriber needs change and the applications its supports continue to evolve,” said Mark Cooper, senior vice president of worldwide sales at Force10 Networks. “As a triple play service provider, Hanaro Telecom relies on the Force10 E-Series to deliver the cost-effective scalability and consistent, dependable uptime essential to service provider networks.”
Through acquisitions and internally-driven expansion, Hanaro Telecom has evolved from an Internet service provider to a triple play carrier, delivering voice, data and video services. The Force10 TeraScale E-Series is the anchor of Hanaro’s data and video services.
