TOLLY GROUP VERIFIES THAT FORCE10 NETWORKS P-SERIES SECURITY APPLIANCE INSPECTS, MONITORS AND PROTECTS AT LINE-RATE 10 GIGABIT SPEEDS

SAN JOSE, Calif., August 28, 2006 – The Force10 Networks® P-Series family of security appliances inspects, monitors and protects data at line-rate 10 Gigabit speeds regardless of traffic conditions or number of rules, according to independent testing results from The Tolly Group. During testing, The Tolly Group confirmed that the Force10 P10 enables users to dynamically write rules into hardware with less than one microsecond of latency, providing greater flexibility in responding to malicious traffic.

“The unique challenges of securing high speed networks have resulted in an increasing discrepancy between the speed of the network and the speed at which it can be secured,” said Kevin Tolly, CEO and president of The Tolly Group. “Our testing confirms that the Force10 P10 enables inspection, monitoring and protection of data at line-rate 10 Gbps, providing an answer to this dilemma.”

The Tolly Group also verified that the Force10 P10 captures traffic at line-rate 10 Gigabits per second (Gbps) according to the configured rules. The P10 also mirrors matched traffic to a mirrored port and terminates traffic flows on either a TCP flag or a flow time out at line rate. The speed and flexibility with which the P10 captures traffic provides IT managers with the security they need to secure high performance networks without compromising performance.

“The previous lack of a security solution for high performance networks left essential strategic network assets at the mercy of slower security platforms,” said Andrew Feldman, vice president of marketing at Force10 Networks. “The Force10 P-Series, however, uniquely combines the processing power of hardware with the flexibility of software to secure the network without compromising the speed of it.”

Based on the patented Dynamic Parallel Inspection (DPI) technology that is optimized for high speed monitoring and traffic capture, the Force10 P-Series supports unprecedented deep packet inspection scalability, ensuring the highest level of security. DPI technology employs multiple hardware-based engines to simultaneously process thousands of rules on a single packet. Additionally, the P-Series embeds security rules and signatures into hardware to ensure line-rate processing of traffic and allows IT managers to write new signatures directly to hardware in real time, delivering deterministic, predictable performance regardless of traffic conditions.

The Force10 P10 supports two line-rate 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports with an aggregate inspection throughput of 20 Gbps and is the industry’s first intrusion prevention system that can secure 10 Gigabit Ethernet networks at line-rate speeds. By delivering security at the speed of the network, the P-Series eliminates costly bottlenecks that accompany alternative solutions.
