FORCE10 NETWORKS INCREASES 10 GIGABIT ETHERNET MARKET SHARE
MILPITAS, Calif., May 31, 2006 — Force10 Networks increased its market share in the modular 10 Gigabit Ethernet segment during the first quarter of 2006, strengthening its number two position in the category. According to the Dell’Oro Group’s most recent Ethernet switch survey report, Force10 was one of the fastest growing switching vendors and is second only to Cisco Systems in market share.
“We have leveraged our engineering excellence into a leading 10 Gigabit product portfolio that is enabling us to win share away from competitors,” said Andrew Feldman, vice president of marketing at Force10 Networks. “Force10’s product line includes the industry’s only 16-port 10 Gigabit line card, enabling the TeraScale E-Series to support 224 ports of 10 Gigabit Ethernet in a single chassis while the S2410 data center switch has set industry benchmarks for 10 Gigabit price and latency.”
Force10 continued to expand its customer base during the first quarter of 2006. Recent core enterprise deployments include industry-leading game developer SEGA, F5 Networks and Stan Winston Studio. Service providers, including FiberNet, KIDC and LIPEX, recently deployed the TeraScale E-Series to deliver reliable voice, data and peering services to their customers. Sandia National Laboratories, a part of the Department of Energy, is also using the high density of the TeraScale E-Series to power the fifth fastest cluster computer in the world.
To facilitate the rapid adoption of 10 Gigabit Ethernet and extend its market beyond the network core, Force10 developed the S2410 data center switch. Designed for high performance clusters, 10 Gigabit Ethernet connectivity to the server and Ethernet-based storage solutions, the S2410 supports 24 line-rate 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports with ultra low switching latency of 300 nanoseconds at an industry-leading price point. The S2410 eliminates the need to integrate Infiniband or other proprietary technologies into the data center and opens the high performance storage market to 10 Gigabit Ethernet technology. Standardizing on 10 Gigabit Ethernet in the data core, edge and storage radically simplifies management and reduces total network cost.
The growing adoption of 10 Gigabit Ethernet both within service provider and enterprise environments has created a strong demand for high speed security. In April 2006, Force10 introduced the industry’s first security appliance that can inspect, monitor and capture traffic at line-rate 10 Gigabit speeds. With the ability to inspect every packet at high speeds, the Force10 P-Series family of security appliances protects the network without compromising performance.
