FORCE10 DEMONSTRATES LINE-RATE 10 GIGABIT SECURITY IN INTEROPLABS NETWORK AT INTEROP

MILPITAS, Calif., May 1, 2006 — Force10 Networks® today announced that its P-Series family of security appliances is providing line-rate 10 Gigabit inspection and monitoring of the InteropLabs network at this week’s Interop 2006 conference in Las Vegas. The Force10 P-Series, the industry’s first 10 Gigabit security appliance, will monitor aggregate traffic from multiple inputs, providing attendees with the first public demonstration of inspection, detection and blocking of traffic at line-rate 10 Gigabit speeds.

“Force10 has a history of high performance switching and routing innovation that it has used to build some of the most advanced networks in the world, and now we are bringing that same innovation to security with the first 10 Gigabit security appliance,” said Andrew Feldman, vice president of marketing at Force10 Networks. “The Force10 P-Series is the first security appliance that can keep pace with the fastest networks, eliminating security as a bottleneck in the network.”

In addition to monitoring traffic from the show network, the Force10 P-Series will demonstrate inspection at line-rate 10 Gigabit speeds under simulated stateful attacks and flooding denial of service attacks. Spirent's ThreatEx/2500 will generate stateful attacks while Spirent traffic generators create several Gigabits of additional IP traffic to demonstrate inspection capabilities at line-rate 10 Gigabit speeds.

The Force10 P-Series family of Gigabit and 10 Gigabit security appliances is the first in the industry to deliver security at the speed of the network. Leveraging field programmable gate arrays that enable IT managers to embed rules into hardware in real time, the Force10 P-Series provides predictable inspection, monitoring and blocking regardless of traffic conditions.

For added flexibility, the P-Series leverages the open source Snort library for its security rules, providing IT mangers with thousands of signatures from which to choose as well as hardened signatures and rules that have been tested and revised by users within the security community. Leveraging the open source Snort community ensures maximum protection of high speed networks against attacks and malware.

Today, more than 25 customers have deployed the Force10 P-Series in their high speed networks to inspect, monitor and block traffic on their network.

InteropLabs is a live, vendor-neutral and standards-based networking environment designed to demonstrate diverse technologies. At this year’s conference, InteropLabs is hosting an Open Source Software initiative, which will implement and test a wide range of open source applications, including security, voice and video. The Force10 P-Series will play an active role in this initiative, monitoring traffic to and from the open source network testbed.
