INFOHIGHWAY COMMUNICATIONS DEPLOYS TURIN’S TRAVERSE® 2000 TO PROVIDE A RANGE OF VOICE AND DATA SERVICES TO NEW YORK AREA BUSINESSES
Traverse Also Provides a Platform for Delivery of Carrier Ethernet Services
Petaluma, CA, March 7 th, 2006 - Turin Networks, a global provider of multiservice optical transport products for carrier, wireless and private networks, announced today that InfoHighway Communications, a provider of hosted and managed communications solutions for businesses, has deployed Turin’s Traverse® 2000 Multiservice Transport Switch to deliver voice, high-speed Internet access, Class 5 switching, and VoIP services to small- to medium-sized businesses in the greater New York metropolitan area.
Leveraging the breadth of capabilities in the Traverse platform, InfoHighway has installed switches in 16 nodes, including deployments on four OC-48 SONET rings in Manhattan . Two of InfoHighway’s main hubs use the Traverse 2000 to terminate multiple rings and to perform 3/1 switching. “The Traverse switch enables us to multiplex DS1, DS3, Ethernet, and SONET circuits for transport across our dark fiber rings,” said Guy Lupi, Vice President of Network Operations at InfoHighway Communications, one of the largest facilities-based network services providers in the Northeast. “It is proving to be an ideal platform for providing a range of differentiated services to our customers, while optimizing available bandwidth and managing costs.”
The Traverse switch will also enable InfoHighway to deploy Carrier Ethernet-based transport using the Traverse platform’s next-generation Ethernet (NGE) modules. The NGE modules support full-featured layer 2 Ethernet switching, as well as virtual concatenation and generic framing protocol (GFP), a technology that provides efficient transport of multiple Ethernet streams over a single transport connection, thereby using the available bandwidth most effectively. These Ethernet services will terminate on the Traverse NGE modules in InfoHighway’s hub. “Traverse provides tremendous flexibility in network terminations, making it a valuable asset as we expand our service portfolio,” said Lupi.
“InfoHighway Communications has effectively demonstrated that, with the right platform, a provider can deliver high-value, low-cost voice and data services while retaining the scalability required to accommodate new customer requirements,” said Roland Feldman, Turin’s vice president of sales for North America. “We are gratified that InfoHighway has selected Turin Networks as a provider of key, enabling technology in its network.”
