FORCE10 NETWORKS AWARDED FIVE PATENTS FOR GROUNDBREAKING TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCES THAT DRIVE THE TERASCALE E-SERIES

MILPITAS, Calif., December 19, 2005 — Force10 Networks today announced that it has been awarded five patents for the advanced technological achievements that are at the foundation of the high performance TeraScale E-Series. The patent-protected high performance backplane architecture and advanced algorithms drive the industry-leading density and resiliency of the Force10 TeraScale E-Series. Force10 now holds eight patents with another 48 pending.

The Force10 TeraScale E-Series utilizes advanced algorithms to ensure predictable performance at industry-leading Gigabit and 10 Gigabit Ethernet densities. The patented algorithms provide the TeraScale E-Series with advanced techniques for increasing internal packet processing power and eliminating traffic congestion. By leveraging innovative ways to more efficiently process packets within the system, the TeraScale E-Series can reliably scale without compromising performance.

Additionally, the passive copper backplane of the Force10 TeraScale E-Series leverages an innovative multi-layer design that can support 100 Gigabit Ethernet today, providing a seamless migration to the next-generation of Ethernet technology without the cost of a backplane or chassis upgrade. Employing advanced design and manufacturing techniques, the TeraScale E-Series backplane also increases system-level performance and reliability by eliminating all active components.

More than 160 data centers, service providers, research organizations and national laboratories leverage the industry-leading density and resiliency of the Force10 TeraScale E-Series to build scalable high performance networks.
