LEADING KOREAN COLLEGE DEPLOYS FORCE10 E-SERIES FOR CAMPUS-WIDE HIGH PERFORMANCE 10 GIGABIT ETHERNET NETWORK
MILPITAS, Calif., March 30, 2004 — Force10 Networks, a pioneer in scalable resiliency for high performance switching and routing, today announced that Korea’s Sangji Youngseo College has deployed the Force10 E-Series switch/routers to upgrade its campus network to 10 Gigabit Ethernet. Leveraging the E600’s scalability and resiliency, Sangji Youngseo College is expanding its network to provide an infrastructure that will deliver the reliability required for a high performance computing environment.
“As an educational institution, it is imperative that we provide our students with the most advanced technology available so that they can excel in their academic studies and research,” said Sang-Cheol Han, CIO and Professor Electrical Engineering at Sangji Youngseo College. “The Force10 E600 brings a new level of performance and scalability that allows us to consolidate our network while providing the bandwidth students need for advanced research projects.”
The Force10 E600 is the backbone of Sangji Youngseo’s 10 Gigabit Ethernet network, connecting the college’s departments and cluster environments and bringing the security and reliability required for a state-of-the-art network. The unique architecture of the Force10 E-Series distributes routing, switching and system management functions between three distinct processing units to eliminate network instability and ensure maximum uptime while the modular Force10 operating system (FTOS) software allocates individual processes to multiple system processors for maximum resiliency and fault tolerance.
“As 10 Gigabit Ethernet revolutionized the way research institutions build large clusters in supercomputing environments, the next-generation technology is now expanding across the campus to revolutionize how students, teachers and researchers access and utilize the network,” said Stephen Garrison, vice president of corporate marketing for Force10 Networks. “With the Force10 E-Series, Sangji Youngseo College gains a reliable and scalable foundation for its network that is providing a high performance computing infrastructure today and will provide for growth in the future.”
Force10 recently announced that Korea’s Chung Cheong University deployed the E-Series to build a 10 Gigabit Ethernet network core. Leveraging the resiliency and scalability of the Force10 E-Series, China’s Tsinghua and Shenzhen universities are also building advanced networking environments that can deliver new services and applications to students and researchers. For these educational institutions, the Force10 E-Series provides the resiliency and scalability to deliver the predictable performance that is essential at the foundation of campus networks.
In December 2002, the Korean government established “e-Campus Vision 2007.” This comprehensive measure for university information utilization is a long-term plan to improve the education and research facilities of the country’s leading universities.
